New Satellite to Give Satellite Internet a Boost

HughesNet has said that with this new satellite, download speeds have the potential to reach 20 megabits per second – about 10 times as fast as the current rate. These speeds will allow users to download pictures, videos and emails at a rate that far surpasses the current speeds

HughesNet and satellite Internet cater to the needs of residents that live outside of urban areas, where cable and DSL don’t reach and where dial-up is a last resort. Most cable companies don’t see a profit in extending to regions that aren’t highly populated, since cable companies thrive on packing many residents onto the same signal.
